Monkey Fist knots were originally tied around a weighted object and used as the end of a heaving line on sailing ships. The weighted knot would allow the sailors to send a messenger line from ship to ship or ship to shore attached to a heavier mooring or dock line.
 
Cast in Rhode Island and designed and assembled in our Marblehead, MA studio, a true made-in-New England original. Solid brass, 14kt yellow gold plate.  Size 1 (standard) 1 7/8" x 2 1/2" interior diameter. Size 2 (extended) 2" x 2 7/8" interior diameter.
